Bennett R. Coles confirmed to speak at international military conference

Promontory Press | August 2, 2012

Promontory Press is pleased to announce that military author Bennett R. Coles has been confirmed as a speaker at the Ops Asia-Pacific Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr. Coles, a 15-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and an expert in littoral warfare, will be giving a talk on how to maximize the tactical capability of the increasingly-popular Offshore Patrol Vessel, or OPV, type of warship.

"Budgets are one of the driving factors in all military procurement these days," said Mr. Coles, "and navies around the globe are looking for ways to maximize their war-fighting capability without spending astronomical sums on equipment and systems."

With naval warfare moving away from the traditional open-ocean conflict and more toward irregular coastal operations such as anti-piracy and anti-smuggling against non-military, criminal marine elements, the smaller OPV-sized vessel is rising in importance. Mr. Coles will outline how naval designers can use existing technology to greatly enhance the tactical interoperability of their low-cost fleets.

The talk, "The Fighting OPV: Tactical C2 for the small-budget warship" will be given on Thursday, October 18th at 9:30am.
