DIY Star Wars Name Generator

When your civilization spans a galaxy, you can expect a serious diversity of names. So how did the Star Wars people come up with all the names for the characters, races and planets we see across this universe of fiction and fun?

What are some cool Star Wars names?

There are plenty of fan favorite Star Wars names already out there, but here’s my list of faves:

How Do I Generate a Random Star Wars Name?

There are random Star Wars name generator websites, so the easiest way to make your own Star Wars name is to search online. All well and good if you’re playing Edge of Empire and need to generate a quick name for a shopkeeper on Dantooine, but what if you want to find a Star Wars name specific to you?

These generators no doubt have some kind of science behind them, but it’s hard to know if your Star Wars name is an original. Are you the only person to have that name, or did the Star Wars name generator spit out similar results for the previous ten visitors? Not that I’m saying there’s any sort of dark agenda on a name generator site, but do you really want names that are just random?

How Do I Make My Star Wars Name?

If you want a Star Wars name that’s really connected to you (and thus, your destiny), this simple technique is my favorite:

1) Take the first three letters of your last name and the first two letters of your first name.

2) Take the first two letters of your mother’s maiden name and the first three letters of the city where you were born.

My name is Bennett Coles, so I get Col and Be – Colbe.

My mum’s maiden name was Thornton and I was born in Winnipeg, so I get Th and Win – Thwin.

Colbe Thwin totally sounds like a Rebel X-wing pilot to me!

(And just as a warning, make sure none of your online passwords contain any of these facts…)

I wish I could claim this generator as copyright Bennett R. Coles 2021, but I won’t indulge that fiction, because I didn’t invent it. But I hope it can spawn many more Star Wars names!
